INTERIM DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRY (¾-Part Time)
The Opportunity
Provide leadership and coordination of the music ministry of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, including performing those duties generally associated with organist and choir director.
The ideal candidate is a skilled keyboardist (organist preferred) with a passion for elevating worship through music. We seek a Director who can conduct themselves pleasantly and professionally as they lead the Congregation through basic hymn styles, provide preludes and postludes to services, and direct the Chancel Choir. This is an interim position with the potential to grow into a permanent position.
Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and Administrative Assistant in the preparation and execution of music for Sunday services according to the liturgical calendar. Ensure that the compositions include a variety of music styles to engage the interests of a diverse congregation. The selections should include, but are not limited to, representative music from classical, gospel, and contemporary styles.

Play the organ and/or the piano for all regularly scheduled services. This includes but is not limited to Sunday morning services, Holy Week services, Christmas Eve, and any ecumenical services hosted by First Congregational Church.

Direct the Chancel Choir during the choir season (September through June). Recruit and train choir members. Lead weekly choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings.

Oversee the music library of the church. Maintain music materials and supplies.

Arrange regular maintenance of the musical instruments of the church, i.e., organ, pianos, and handbells.

Provide the music for wedding and funeral services. It is understood that the Director of Music Ministry has first refusal.
Qualifications:

Excellent piano/keyboarding skills

Organ proficiency preferred, but not required

Knowledge of musical instrument maintenance, including piano, organ, and handbells

Vocal/chorus direction experience preferred

This is a salaried position. Salary will be reflective of skills/expertise.
